Rhinoplasty Q & A
What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape your nose for both aesthetic and functional purposes.
During rhinoplasty, Dr. Koch can adjust the shape of your nose to create a more balanced appearance. He can also reduce the size of your nose and address visible depressions or humps on the bridge of your nose. If you have nostrils that are too wide or large, Dr. Koch can make them smaller.
He performs rhinoplasty procedures for adults and children of all ages and specializes in Asian rhinoplasty to improve the size and shape of the nose while still retaining the natural features of Asian noses.
In addition to the aesthetic appearance of your nose, rhinoplasty can help repair issues that affect your ability to breathe, such as a deviated septum. If you previously had rhinoplasty and are unhappy with your results, Dr. Koch can provide a customized rhinoplasty revision surgery.
What happens during rhinoplasty?
During your rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Koch will provide you with an anesthetic to keep you relaxed and comfortable. He will typically make incisions on the inside of your nose to reduce your risk for scarring. He might also make incisions in the outer skin that separates your nostrils.
Dr. Koch uses specialized techniques to improve the size and shape of your nose or make necessary repairs. If you’re undergoing surgery to reduce the size of your nose, he may need to remove portions of cartilage or bone. He can also move cartilage and bone from one area of your nose to another to improve its overall shape.
After the procedure is complete, Dr. Koch closes the incisions with sutures. He may apply splints or bandages to support your nose as it heals.
How long does it take to recover from rhinoplasty?
Initially, you can expect moderate swelling in your nose that lasts for several weeks. You won’t be able to see the optimum benefits of a rhinoplasty until the swelling goes away.
During your recovery, you should take time off work and will need to limit strenuous and high-impact activities that can damage your nose.
Dr. Koch provides comprehensive after-care instructions to protect your nose and reduce your risk factors for infection and other complications. He can also recommend when you can return for suture removal based on your healing process.
